Chairmans Report AGM 2023

PRRA is an important organisation to Tauranga City Council and PRRA is included in many council forums and user groups. Recently this has involved being part of user group sessions for the upgrades of the roading systems around Hewletts Rd and the Mount to Arataki Spatial Plan.

At present it is difficult to be heard with no local representatives/councillors.  Next year, a return to local democracy is scheduled for mid 2024.    There will be local councillors to talk to and a direct link again to the council.  This time next year we will be talking about who we will vote for as our mayor and councillors. Better days are just around the corner.

Papamoa is the largest suburb In Tauranga with many unique amenities and features which we need to protect and maintain and also ask for. Eg Wairakei Stream, community halls, parks, and the list goes on.

PRRA looking forward

There are many directions PRRA can take in the future. The next committee will determine the direction.  PRRA is a community organisation. To continue, PRRA needs committee members.  This is your organisation.

PRRA is planning to work alongside the council in more areas to be an active stakeholder and participant in the development of Papamoa.  The Commissioners preach the idea of inclusion with the community and after they leave next year these relationships can continue with the council.

Two areas of concern are

  1. Wairakei Stream --- members of PRRA are very concerned with the ongoing grass mowing and weeding, the changing of the water flows with the piecemeal maintenance, no maintenance on the cycleway/pathway,  banks are collapsing as a result of poor water level control.  We are approaching TCC and BOPRC to establish a Users Group to work through these issues. Work in progress.

  2.  Tsunami Pedestrian Escape routes.  -- ongoing communications with NZTA and TCC.  TCC looks as if it has washed it hands off this.  Ongoing.

There are more areas of concern – roads, bus routes, medical care.  PRRA is often asked to involved with user group meetings. Lately PRRA has been involved with the traffic reengineering of Hewletts Rd.

As PRRA members you are invited to add your input and efforts to any initiative.

I would like to thank two long standing committee members who have resigned, Iain Bibby and Barry Bean,  thankyou for your efforts on behalf of PRRA.  Thank you also to Chris Pattison who resigned from the committee.

Welcome to Yvonne Lambert who has picked up the Treasurer Role.

Some of the committee roles are

Facebook coordinator,

Sponsorship coordinator,

Secretary,

Chairman,

Speaker organiser,

Meetings coordinator.

Members to attend Users Groups.

Think about becoming involved. Without a committee, PRRA can  not continue.
